국민관광지인 서귀포시가 죽은 삼나무들로 인해 첫눈에 비치는 모습이 흐려지고 있다.
제주감귤을 생산하는 농민들이 귤밭 가장자리에 방풍수로 심은 삼나무들을 웃자라면서 그늘이 생기자 일부러 껍질을 벗겨 죽이기 때문에 붉으스름하게 말라버린 삼나무들로 인해 관광객들에게 이미지가 안좋게 보여지고 있는 것이다.
이런 모습은 제주공항에서 서귀포로 연결되는 4차선도로인 평화로와 516도로 일주도로의 감귤밭에서 여러 군데 볼 수 있다.
특히 서귀포시 안덕면 덕수리와 예래동, 토평동의 대로변에는 수년째 죽은 삼나무들이 방치돼 있다.
게다가 안덕면 상창리 도로변은 백여그루의 죽은 삼나무들이 보이는데 일부는 쓰러져 있어 당장이라도 덮칠 것 같아 안전에도 걱정이 될 정도로 위험하게 서 있다.
제주관광학회 고승익 고문은 “죽은 삼나무들이 많이 눈에 띄는데, 크게 자라면서 감귤나무에 방해가 되기 때문이다”면서, “농민들이 고령화로 인해 행정에서 신고를 받아 도로변이나 경관에 관련된 나무들은 공공측면에서 우선해서 잘라 버렸으며 좋겠다”라고 제안했다.
서귀포시 정문석 문화관광체육국장은 “글쎄요 어쨌든 관광소관업무지만 전문성은 공원녹지과에서 담당”이라면서 “어쨌든 서귀포시가 최고의 관광도시이기 때문에 보기싫은 부분이 있다면 개선할 부분이 있다고 봅니다”라고 말했다.

In particular, cedar trees that have died for several years are neglected along the boulevards of Deoksu-ri, Yerae-dong and Topyeong-dong, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si.
In addition, on the side of the road in Sangchang-ri, Andeok-myeon, you can see about a hundred dead cedar trees.
Seung-ik Ko, an advisor of the Jeju Tourism Association, said, “Dead cedar trees stand out a lot, because they grow larger and interfere with citrus trees.” It would be nice to cut it off first.”
Seogwipo City Culture Tourism and Sports Bureau Director Jeong Mun-seok said, “Well, anyway, it is a tourism-related business, but the Specialty is in charge of the Parks and Greenery Division.”
